Mayhem can strike you anytime anywhere, and this ad by Allstate Insurance is here to help. The "Test Driver" ad by Allstate starts off with a dad and his son selling a motorcycle to a man that Allstate refers to as "Mayhem." He tells the audience that how can somebody possibly trust him with a test drive, and soon after he hits a sharp turn and crashes the motorcycle. Before he crashed the motorcycle he mentioned that if you don't have the right motorcycle insurance, you can be fixing/paying for this bike yourself. The audience of this ad is clearly for motorcycle owners, and it's trying to get you to buy motorcycle insurance by showing you what accidents may happen. By showing an accident that looked very brutal, Allstate intended for the audience to feel scared for themselves and to get protected immediately to avoid it. The author implies that if you get an Allstate agent, you save more money and are better protected. What can be taken from this ad is that Americans can be careless with their vehicles and that an accident can happen in seconds. The speech in the ad is very arrogant, because of the way the character "Mayhem" speaks carefree and has an "I don't care what happens" attitude. Allstate organized this ad to be a cause and effect situation, you see a father give a careless man a test drive, and soon after gets into a horrible looking accident. This has an effect on the audience because it shows how easy an accident can occur and that it can happen to anyone. The mood is extremely blunt but it has somewhat of sarcasm to it, because of the way Mayhem was talking and interacting with the audience. This Allstate ad definitely is effective because of the way it shows an accident that could actually happen so vividly and straight forward.
